I am deciding my 'New Year' begins NOW, as I write this to you.. As we enter Mercury Retrograde.
The last four weeks have been exciting, exhausting, expansive and somewhat of an endurance test. Stress has been high for me, which is unusual. And you know- being a yoga teacher, I am supposed to be ever-calm and in manage of my emotions... NOT!

"I now live the life I love to live!"

Why did I make that statement? Because I feel my stress has a lot to do with ME being resistant to fully receiving the very things I have been asking for. In 2014 I asked for a lot. And now that everything I asked for is here, I'm dealing with my own fear of really stepping into 'it' and being more of myself in it.

What did you ask for in 2014?... Either consciously or subconsciously?
Has it arrived? Is it on its way?
Are you enjoying the process of 'becoming more of yourself'?

COMMITMENT

In 2014 I committed to living a life much larger than I had ever known. To me, this meant setting specific goals as a writer and following through with them to get results- just as we do when preparing a workout regime. This also meant teaching more of my homemade style classes on Meditation and BellyDance, in honor of creating community and stretching my skills as a teacher. Committing to a much larger life also meant leaving a long-term and very comfortable job that had outlived its growth for me.

In the last month...

1. I moved into an amazing new home with my fiancĂ©... on New Years Eve!
something we had been talking about for four months, happened in less than two weeks.
2. I now have 'office space', whereby I can get into the 'writing zone' for my next book.
the space has arrived, when will I?
3. I left a job after ten years of very wonderful service. Thank you, and you're welcome.
an outgrown comfort zone. It's time to expand my vision of the program I was running, and expand my vision of self too.
4.My body suffered an on-off winter cold, from mid December to mid January.
yuck.
~

When you make big life changes, how does your body reflect them?

I feel my 'on-off winter cold' reflects all the ways I am changing- from the inside out. The expansion of home-space chosen by my partner and I is a huge step in trusting the direction we envision for our life together. In our new home, we each have an abundance of space to 'create' and experiment in our own magical ways. Him with his new food business, and me with my teaching, dancing and writing. I have been given, and have gifted myself a new playground to play in... so why is it so damn hard to play? Is it because it is a very new type of living situation for me? One that I have never experienced before? Indeed it is. I feel like my new living situation is a dream coming to life. It is a reality that takes me outside of a comfort zone I didn't even know existed.

~

COMFORT ZONES

My on-off winter cold had taken its toll. I felt run-down. My shoulder and lower back became strained and I was near to tears. I was officially exhausted. I barely had a moment to catch my breath, with being away for Christmas and then the big move. I wanted to cry, but couldn't let myself surrender, as I had to leave soon to teach a yoga class (irony).  I became emotional and felt something bubble up that I had been trying to push down. It was STRESS! James, my fiancĂ© put his arm around me and said: "We have been in 'preparation-mode' for some time. Now we get to live what we have been preparing for!" I knew he was right. 'Be grateful. Celebrate the abundance Tuesday,- and expand into it with ease and joy. Get to work now, and own it...Otherwise, go kicking and screaming- until you break." I told myself.

As I walked to work with a sore shoulder and twisted lower back, I knew the stress I felt was the resistance I had to relaxing into my new life. This stress is based in fear! I thought. I am afraid of trusting this growth spurt, and so the 'little me' is trying to hold onto the past, even though I have outgrown it. The old me from our last home is trying to hold onto the easy comfort zone of only having to live up to a much smaller vision of myself. That old job was super easy, and paid a certain sum that I am sacrificing for my growth. Now that I have let go of the old life- I am scared.. I have to step up and step into this new life I have created. I admit, I am afraid of letting go completely and trusting my heart. But if I don't, I will be dying a slow death, and won't really be living at all.

~

If you can do everything you 'do' with your eyes closed (Jedi joke not intended), then maybe you need to sign up for some activities that get you excited, and make you stretch beyond your comfort zone.

Where can you make sacrifices for your own growth?
What have you been doing that you know does not offer you challenges to grow?
How can you stretch beyond your known limits?

CALMING STRESS

You know when you are given (or give yourself) the opportunity to stretch beyond your comfort zone? Growing pains can happen, and growing pains are not comfortable- but they give us the chance to practice self-love and self-care.

After teaching my yoga class, it was evident to a close friend that I needed a stress release. "Take an epsom salt bath girl... Put some lavender in it and just chill..." She spoke to me while holding my arm. "You need it." She was right. I am always telling other people to take epsom baths, and now its my turn. I usually take them to soothe aching muscles, but I forget that it is an excellent way to aid relaxation and pull toxins out of our bodies, including toxic thoughts, so I believe.

Bathtime

I needed a ceremony. So I didn't just take a bath, I took a ceremonial-bath. I needed a real happening to signify a release of the past. Something I had not done yet.  I got a 4 pound bag of Epsom Salt from Walgreens and collected some flowers from around the house. I poured half the bag of salt in and carefully placed the flowers, along with stems of green-  into the piping hot bath water. With some gentle-piano and flowing-water music in the background, I lit a candle just for me.

"This bath is a healing and a cleansing. May I be forever changed in the highest ways, upon leaving this sanctuary." I stated upon entering the steamy waters.

I got in and didn't get out for two hours. One hour in, I began to unravel and breathe deeply- releasing sighs of relief along the way. I drained the bath a little and refilled it with more hot water and added the rest of the Epsom salt. I placed the flowers along my stomach and the branches of green along my legs. I submerged my rose and clear quartz crystals into the water with me and started to sob. I allowed myself to feel it, and so sobbed some more.  As I did, I felt myself unravel. I started to relax for the first time in a month.

Afterwards I left the flowers to dry along my bath and kept the greens at the foot. Everyday when I showered, I was brought back to the reminder of beauty and relaxation and how vital it is to enjoying the very transformation we call to our lives.

Beauty in our surroundings reminds us to relax.
~

What can you do this week- to help relieve stress in your life, and to treat yourself with extra loving care? Do it! Let it be a healing... Let it renew you. Surrender to the process and slow down to live it.

Divine Feminine- Part 2 of 4 'Ask and You Shall Receive'

From an early age I was taught to fear intimacy with men. At least, that's how I translated the words of my grandmother. From the age of five she would tell me "Anytime a man looks you in the eye, he wants to have sex with you.." I was too young to know what sex was at the time, but by the way my grandmother affirmed this statement to me time and time again, it seemed that men and sex were something to fear. I learned to not attract the attention of men in any way shape or form, for fear of an inappropriate transference of energy.

Granted, yes it's true- at five years old I should not engage with strangers or strange men attempting to hold my gaze. This truth aside, there was something about what she used to tell me- that got under my skin as a kid..., into my mental projections as I grew up, and fueled my emotional triggers as an adult. I know my grandmother was only doing what she felt was right for my well being at the time... But this one belief pattern informed my life for over forty years. It filtered the way I perceived myself as a woman in the world, which was to shrink my energy rather than expand it. I spent years agonizing over trying to understand the complexity of the male/female dilemma in the world.

Throughout life, a personal fear of men and sex caused me to squelch any feminine attributes I had, and filter them through a masculine pretense. Deep down I feared drawing too much attention from men by being beautiful or attractive, or too feminine in any way. I feared men would be seeking to have sex with me like my grandmother said and that was bad- right?

Though my mother is a strong and beautiful woman, we spent very little time together in my youth and without my biological father around, I was left on my own to figure things out. It was complicated because I was told not to seek attention from men by my grandmother, yet I sought it desperately as a means to be validated by my 'missing' father. When ever I did receive sexual attention from men, I felt terribly ashamed for receiving it. My lines of understanding were all criss-crossed. I am just beginning to tread a new world of trust and expression as a Divine Feminine being upon this planet. And it's about time!

~

Six months ago while journaling, I wrote... "I will be turning forty-two and can count on one hand, how many times I have truly felt feminine in my whole life. I have spent years being afraid to be a beautiful woman in the world. I long to explore what it means to be feminine and how it feels to honor the beauty that resides within myself." -

I knew I was ready to start re-defining who I was as a woman. I was ready to release the old belief patterns placed into me by my past and launch a part of myself that had for my entire life, been missing. I lay in the bathtub with a candle and my crystals. An urge to 'call in' my female-power came over me. I found myself praying to be lifted into the arms of a universal wisdom that could safely reveal it's secrets through the Divine Feminine. I prayed to understand myself as a woman in this world. I prayed to download the strength I needed to trust that it was okay to be beautiful and powerful without needing to use my female energy to manipulate or seduce. I prayed for grace and innocence, humility, wisdom and healing. "Divine Feminine, come unto me- for the highest good... I call upon you now. I am ready to embody your wisdom, grace and beauty."

I have a face to face with Sophia Loren. She tells me:
It is okay to relax into your femininity. Raise your head up high and own your womanhood.

Soon after my bathing/prayer ceremony I decide to practice bellydancing in the same room as my fiance. This would be a challenge for me as I had not danced in front of him in this way before. At first I fumbled and felt so awkward. I had to battle feeling stupid and foolish. Even though he was on his computer, I knew he was watching me. I decided this was the perfect gateway to embracing my femininity and allowing the Divine Feminine to move through me. After all, I'm in the presence of a man with whom I feel completely safe. And I'm in my own home too. What could go wrong? After forty minutes of practicing some moves- I made a HUGE breakthrough... Bravo!!! I actually felt safe inhabiting the feminine force for the first time in my life. I had a breakthrough and it was fucking amazing.

But the next day, my body told a different story. I went to get up out of bed and my hip was killing me. "What the...?" Had I opened up a part of myself so deeply that it caused my physical body to require some sort of a re-boot? There was no pain when I was bellydancing last night, how could this be? Ughhhh. When I meditated upon it, the message I got was: The strain in my hip is due to the opening up of an area where 'trusting my sexuality' had been previously blocked.  For the next two weeks I shifted my gait to acclimate my new hip strain.  My hips moved in and out of a staccato motion, but eventually I found a new fluid rhythm in my hips that I had only encountered briefly at one other time in my life.

While undergoing my 'hip transformation', I began writing new affirmations for my body. I realized further acknowledgment  of the Divine Feminine was important. I started this crazy train, now I better take the reigns! I asked for it, and here she was. Was the Divine Feminine showing me her love through my hip transformation? My new affirmation became: "I now expand my vision and see more beauty in myself than ever before."I now expand my vision and embrace more femininity."

In fact, I kept writing and writing and have been using the following affirmations as a means to acclimate my mind, body, emotions and spirit into a new paradigm of trust and empowerment. I placed the affirmations into a video. You are invited into my world. Watch the following video, and if it connects with your soul, please use it often. It has helped me to create new awareness and expanded energy and grace in regards to embracing the Divine Feminine power in my life... And it can help you too!

Power Affirmations

Here at I Love My Beautiful Body blog, your whole be-ing is acknowledged. Not just a body, you are your mind, emotions and spirit too. A beautiful body glows because of the illuminating inner thoughts and beliefs it 'runs' on. That's the secret! Just as a healthy diet and regular exercise are important parts of taking care of ourselves, so too are the diet of thoughts and words we think about ourselves and our lives.

Do you run off junk food thoughts? Do your thoughts about yourself and your life starve you of real sustenance? Do their nutritional value serve your well being over the long term? Or do they slowly leak toxins into the landscape of your reality; body, mind and soul? Think of all the inner 'recordings' that play over and over within yourself. Some have been playing for so long, we begin to belive them as truth. For example, "I'll never loose weight." "Nobody will ever love me." "I am unattractive." If limiting thoughts are allowed to run your life, they will slowly drain you of personal power and self love.  You will find your energy zapped. Reality will show up just as you personally prophesized- it to be. Be it positive, not so positive- or down right difficult.

Inner recordings are connected to the muscles of negative and positive thinking. Which muscle is stronger in you? The positive one, or the negative one? Is it easier to think positive thoughts about your job than your body image? Is it harder to think positive thoughts about your relationships, and easier to think positive about your body image? We are all different, and have different needs at different times. You may ask; "How can I begin to make positive changes in all aspects of my life?" My answer- "Power Affirmations." Learn conscious manifestation and transformation through your thoughts and words.

I have used conscious positive thinking for many years. It continues to help shape shift my life; mind, body and soul. While negative thoughts can lurk and even prove challenging to overcome, having a tool is key to transforming the old you (limiting thoughts & beliefs) into the new you- beautiful, powerful and unlimited.  The inner muscle of positive/negative thinking drives the thoughts you think about yourself. This in turn affects how you feel about yourself and this affects how you perform as you, or be (or not be) your Self.

Power Affirmations have helped me heal, make changes in life, and create new possibilities. Below is the first video in a series I created. May it to serve as a blueprint, from which you can create your own Power Affirmations. You can experience your Beautiful Body, Mind and Soul no matter what size, shape or age you are.

Whatever you do- always tell the truth.

I did not tell the truth on Friday night and it caused deep shifts in the person I love most of all. I wanted to announce how much I love him, but got caught up in projecting that I would be judged by others for sharing my 'truth of love'... So instead, I downplayed my love of you.

Word, I am Word.
The words we speak, truly create the world we experience.

In my downplay of words spoken over our love- you were marked, our love was marked- though I did not mean it to be so. My words made it so. You played it cool and stood by me- but the subtle affect of my words came to pass, and our love suffered. I became paralyzed, you - withdrawn...

Until the darkness of night came to pass, and my tears merged with your warm embrace. We found ourselves growing, and at a new pace. I am learning to love and trust as I never have before.
I am learning how it feels to be loved and trusted.

Word, I am Word.
The words we speak, truly create the world we experience.

Chunky Juicy Jelly - INNER THIGH

Chunky Juicy Jelly - INNER THIGH

Gotta love the jiggle-wiggle of the Inner Thigh! I've always had thick inner thighs. As a child my mother told me to rub talcum powder between my legs so they would not chafe. It worked.

Love your Beautiful Body
Be Patient

At the age of 28 I weighed close to 200lbs. I dropped 60 of it after backpacking in Australia. For once in my life I could see through a gap between my upper legs. Over time I gained weight back, and lost it again several times. This caused many stretch marks in and around my inner thigh area, leaving the skin slack and loose. I never saw that gap again. When I became interested in tightening my derrière, I would stand naked in front of the mirror and pull up my butt cheeks from behind to see what my butt and body might look like. When I pulled up my butt cheeks, as to 'enact' a tighter tush, my inner thighs would disappear. Then I would let my booty slide down and my thighs would wobble together.

Do the Work
Let go of the Old ~ Embrace the New

After a year of incorportaing squats and an arsenal of booty exercises into my weekly workouts, the ass I thought truly had NO HOPE- has started to 'shape'-shift. As my butt has been toning up, I noticed my inner thigh area was not matching the positive results I was seeing from my booty workouts (of which I will share very soon!) I am excited to share one of my favorite inner thigh tighteners.

Bellydancer Inner Thigh Workout

Next week I will share a delicious Recipe for goat cheese quesadillas plus a tummy workout that really helps to tighten loose- and slack stomach skin. You will need a resistance band to perform the next few exercises I post. If you are in America, you can purchase a resistance band with hand loops for around $5 at TJ MAX or ROSS. Unless you are ready to hit it hard, get a 'medium' tension resistance band. I love the hand loops with cushions on mine. See you soon <3

Ready For Change - Part 2; Doing 'the Work' with Affirmations

My last post entitled Ready for Change, Part 1- 'The Work'- Putting Pen to Paper went pretty deep. If you are willing to do this kind of 'work', you will find out a lot about yourself. It's like a form of meditation. Only once our attention is focused do we begin to sense and tap into a broader expanse of our environment. We can begin to see that there are possibilities outside of what things seemingly 'look' like to us at this time.

I know it takes time to sit, and write, and feel out your deepest truths, that is why it is called 'the work'. It can be easy to spend time watching the t.v, or talking on the phone, or feeling sad for yourself... but consider spending a portion of your time devoted to self improvement, self love and self empowerment, with exercises such as in the previous post. You are not doing this work for anyone else but yourself. It is personal and private. Consider discovering your feelings and growth as very sacred steps along your path to greater SELF- LOVE.

Lets review this statement from last weeks post:

"If you are not experiencing the results you want in life, change the way you do things. Change the way you talk about thingsand change the way you think about things."

The "Take Charge of Your Vision- Create the List" exercises are a helpful way to navigate creating the change you wish to be and see in your life.

A student this week said she was finally shaping up in her body and was feeling good about herself physically, but inside, her emotional state was a mess and her outer life didn't match her deepest wishes and hopes. Affirmations help to bridge the gaps between body, mind and emotions so we can feel the inside better capable of matching the outside and vice versa.

I have found regular use of Affirmations to be a deeply powerful means to re-wire my mind and mouth from speaking and thinking in negatives, to thinking and speaking in positives! I like to use index cards for my affirmations and put them up all over the house, especially in front of my bathroom mirror- try it.

An Affirmation is a statement or thought pattern we habitually say or think over and over. We may find ourselves stuck in the Affirmations of "There is no hope.", "I am doomed.", "I always fail.", " Why bother, my life sucks anyway." Know that your words and thoughts create your reality and truth. What you speak into and think into your life becomes real. How do we know? Well, look around yourself. Do your thoughts and speech match your reality? What are your usual thoughts, are they reflected back to you in your environment and through those that surround you?

I know, it may seem a bit foolish to 'think' positive thoughts and 'speak' positively when your life feels like it is a mess and you feel like a mess too. But believe me- if you can allow yourself to do the work consistently, the work, works! Just give a try.. and I mean REALLY MUSTER UP YOUR SINCEREST INTENTION TO CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE, AND BE READY TO RECOGNIZE AND RECEIVE IT. Mmmmmhmmmmm. Can I get a 'Whooo Whoooo'
from the back row!!

When doing this kind of 'work'- you become the nutty professor, the alchemist and a master of your time and space. Once you realize your thoughts and words are running the show of life, you will truly want to re-write the things you normally think and speak into the world about yourself. I will say, it takes work. The 'old you' that is used to the old ways you used to think or speak may not wish to give up the old ways of thinking. Thats ok, its a process, be gentle, kind and loving with your self, always. <3. Its like learning a new language, it may take time before the new, powerful words and thoughts you are now entertaining can actually take root and become automatic.

After doing the exercises in last weeks post, I came up with some very meaningful affirmations for myself. I would like to share a few with you.

(1) Change the way you do things.
List five simple things you can do to create more positivity and love in your life.
Sometimes I feel impatient, and forget about the blessings in my life. I use affirmations to help myself remember the basic foundation I intend my life to expand from.
Here is one of my affirmations from this exercise:

(2) Change the way you talk about things
List the things you talk about and how you can do so in a more positive manner.
I am always complaining to my body, and to my boyfriend about my loose skin. After countless bouts of gaining and loosing weight, I find it harder to tighten up trouble areas and often get down on my body for not 'looking' a certain way. After doing the above written exercise, I decided I would no longer speak of my loose or sagging skin, and I would do my best not to focus on it in my thoughts either.
Instead I am affirming via mind and speech, the body I intend to have! It feels great speaking it into the world, I can tell my body feels more supported than before too. It's like it has been waiting for me to be nice to it, so it can start to change. As long as I held it in the reality of looking loose skinned and sagging- thats all I saw. I swear, in just a week I am beginning to see a different body shine through- it is magic. Change your mind and change your circumstances, for real! Your body is alive and hears everything you say and think, and reacts to is accordingly.

(3) Change the way you think about things.
List the top five 'negative', or limiting thoughts you have about your self or life. 'Flip the script' and write your thoughts in a changed manner. Transform them into positives.
Omg- I was in a little car accident earlier this year. My spine got out of whack and I experienced a lot of pain for what felt like- forever. I had to totally stop exercising and slowly build up my work-outs again. I am finally able to do things I just could not do for several months... Yet I still hear myself speak of 'my spine being out of alignment', or of my 'weak back' to friends etc. Not anymore- Nope, I am choosing to speak strength and well-being over my body and empower it to be its best NOW!

You are a warrior.
Be disciplined like one.
Have integrity in how you speak over your life.
Your words control your mind and co-create your life.

Next week we will get into working out and later I plan to share some yummy veggie recipes with you too! You are asking for tummy, butt, inner thigh exercises, so that is where we will continue next time. Until then, visit my website www.tuesdaymaythomas.com and check out my music and books- and Keep loving your Beautiful Body. Be gentle with yourself along the path of transformation.
Much Love and Light. <3
